Frequently Asked Questions

-What is The SID Station?

The SID Station is an Internet only radio station that plays Commodore 64 chip/SID music.

-Commodore 64 , chip , SID music?

Ok, rather than type lots of info that's already out there I'll direct you to - Here . Or just google it.

-So what made you build a radio station to play all this stuff?

Because I am genuinely passionate about SID tunes and honestly love the sound the SID chip creates, so much so I decided to start this station to share my passion and hopefully build up a small community of like minded others.

-When did The SID Station start transmitting then?

Transmission started on the 2/12/2008 as a beta-test on a home grown shoutcast server. On the 28/12/2008 the stream became hosted allowing more listeners at a better bit-rate. So officially 28/12/2008

-Why wasn't there any artist information available?

This has now been corrected.

-What's this port 80 / web proxy thing?

The port 80 / web proxy update to the stream will not effect most people. However, lets say you wanted to listen to The SID Station at work and the company you work for has filters/firewalls in place on there computer network to stop you tuning in. Well, port 80 is not normally blocked so the stream gets around the afore-mentioned and into your ears. Just don't let your boss catch you!

-Who is behind The SID Station?

As of writing this FAQ, just it's founder and operator - Dr. Bongo. however this may change in the future.

-So who are you then Dr. Bongo?

A self confessed retro-computer geek. No seriously, I'm a 30 year old guy who lives in England and own and run my own garage business to keep me in video games and beer! I've had C64's most of my life (as well as many other machines) and have now amassed a large quantity of retro machines and games. I also dabble in the C64 remix scene from time to time, maybe you've heard some of my stuff!

-Can I help or get involved?

I'm not purposefully looking for help at the minute, but feel free to contact me and let me know what you have to offer. You never know!

-You have not answered my question!

Mail it HERE . I'll get back to you.
